Ways To Give
Supporting Programs and Operations
Your gift to Hospice Foundation of Northeastern Illinois supports care for those who need it. You can choose any of the following funds to support with your gift:
Area of Greatest Need Donors may provide patient assistance for care given to uninsured or underinsured individuals, so no one who comes to Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois is ever turned away due to lack of funds or access to insurance. This Fund also helps build reserves for the future of the agency, and provides resources for various expenses to help meet any end-of-life goals that are above and beyond traditional clinical care needs. In the past, this fund has been used to purchase game systems for pediatric patients, pay a mortgage payment to keep a hospice patient and family from losing their home, and assist with gas payments for volunteers who drive patients to doctors’ offices in Chicago.
Grief Support & Healing Therapies Fund Part of our hospice care plan is to support hospice families and the community at-large after a loss through grief support programs. Funding has assisted with development of special programs for children including Camp Courage and Remember U. Integrative therapies, including art, massage, music, acupuncture and Reiki, are offered to patients as part of the holistic healing approach of hospice care. Funding has also supported bringing music into our Hospice Home inpatient units during the holidays with professional musicians from the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.
Care for Children Fund Through our nationally recognized pediatric hospice and palliative care programs, specialized care is provided to children age birth to 21 who have serious and life-limiting illnesses, as well as those medically frail children with chronic conditions who are living in long-term care facilities. Many of the children we care for have exhausted their insurance by the time they are admitted into hospice care, resulting in their families having no way to pay for services. This fund assists with these types of situations so that all children receive the care they need. In 2010, the Hospice Foundation provided more than $750,000 in care for children and their families who did not have the means to pay for services.
Hospice Home Fund This fund supports enhancements of our two inpatient facilities—The Woodstock Hospice Home in Woodstock, and the Pepper Family Hospice Home in Barrington—which provide round-the-clock acute symptom management in a home-like environment.
Education & Outreach Fund This fund provides resources for educational opportunities for HPNI staff, volunteers, community members, and other clinical professionals, and specialized outreach education/information to targeted groups in the community including veterans and Latinos.
Heritage Tree and Healing Garden Fund Our gardens surrounding the Pepper Family Hospice Home and Center for Care were created to provide a serene environment for patients and their families. Maintenance of perennial plantings and annual flowers will be a continuing need. Gifts to this fund help provide care and maintenance for the property, grounds and beautiful trees.
