Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteer opportunities at Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois. We're always seeking compassionate and caring individuals who would like to donate their time within their community. Volunteers are a major element of hospice care. Hospice began as a volunteer movement and volunteers continue to be a way we enhance the care of our patients and families.

Patient and Family Care Volunteers

Opportunities to care for hospice patients and their families are available throughout Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois' six-county service area. Patient and family care volunteers support patients and families in a variety of ways:

  • visit with patients on a routine or occasional basis at their home or long-term care communities
  • sit vigil during the last hours of life with patients who may not have family or friends present
  • participate in Camp Courage,  a four-day day camp for children who have experienced a loss.

Volunteers who choose to work with patients and families receive training and support from professional staff.

Organizational Volunteers

You can also volunteer your time in to help with our administration or assist with special events. Organizational volunteers offer their time in the office or in the community to provide:

  • special event support
  • presentations to organizations about hospice
  • support for adult and child bereavement and grief services
  • project support in an office setting
Organizational volunteers require no special training, age requirements or commitments. Teen-age voluteers are welcome!
