Medical Director Selected for Hospice Inpatient Unit

Syed Haider, M.D., was recently named Medical Director of the Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois Inpatient Unit in Woodstock.

Dr. Haider, an independent McHenry County-based internal medicine physician, has been an associate medical director with Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois since December, 2007.

"Dr. Haider is a very big advocate of hospice care and of our agency," said Daneen Gorski-Adams, associate director of inpatient services. "He is very attentive to our patients' care and will be successful in this role."

The 10-bed Inpatient Unit, which is designed with a homelike environment, and includes a family room, kitchen, children’s play area and meeting rooms, is located within the Centegra Specialty Hospital, 527 W. South St., in Woodstock. Patients are referred to the unit when they are experiencing acute pain and symptom management issues or when they have caregiver breakdown.

“I just love what I do,” Dr. Haider said. “I do whatever I can to be of help to people going through this difficult time in their lives. My goal is to make them and their families comfortable and put them at ease.”

Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois is a not-for-profit organization serving families throughout McHenry, Lake, Northwest Cook, Kane, Boone and DuPage counties.  Celebrating its 28th year of service, the agency provides comprehensive end-of-life care to nearly 1,300 patient families each year.  HPNI is Medicare certified and accredited by the Joint Commission.
