A New Campaign for Comfort and Care

Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois has new plans to update its Woodstock Inpatient Unit. The plan will make for a more comfortable, homelike environment for patients, family members, and friends. The goal for HPNI’s Campaign for Comfort and Care 2011 is to raise more than $300,000 to cover the costs of all enhancements. Read more >>

Hospice Receives Challenge Grant

HPNI has received a Matching Endowment Challenge Grant from the McHenry County Community Foundation (MCCF). The challenge program will allow for HPNI to receive a dollar for dollar match in funds raised from MCCF up to $25,000. This program will be the first in the agency’s endowment plan with HPNI that could potentially grow each year. Read more

Using Art for Therapy

One of the many ways HPNI is enhancing the lives of those with various health conditions including dementia is through art therapy. A recent “Painting with Music” session at Sherman West Court in Elgin enhanced the self esteem of the elderly participants and allowed them to relax and reminiscence about their childhoods. Art therapy allows for patients to express their thoughts and feelings through an alternative medium, when many are unable to do so verbally due to the effects of conditions such as dementia or stroke. Hospice Home Celebrates One Year Anniversary

HPNI recently celebrated the one year anniversary of welcoming its first patient to the Pepper Family Hospice Home and Center for Care. The state of the art facility provides a warm, family atmosphere to members of the community in need of end-of-life care. With the support of volunteers providing assistance spanning from patient care to garden upkeep, the Pepper Family and Hospice Home and Center for Care has already been able to care for more than 315 patients since opening its doors. We’re Off to the Races

The HPNI Duck Races and Pool Parties are fast approaching. The annual free event, held July 30 in Woodstock and August 13 in Barrington, will include various family fun activities in addition to the famous duck races. Hundreds of color plastic ducks will be sent racing down water slides, with winning ducks owners earning various prizes. Drawings for an iPad2 and an iPod Touch included as well. Read more >>

Annual Gala Nets Nearly $360,000

This year the annual Hospice Gala was a wonderful success, raising nearly $360,000 for hospice care. The Gala, which took place at the Tall Oaks Estate in Barrington Hills, included dinner, auction, and dancing for the estimated 400 in attendance. The money raised through the Gala, including $20,000 in the Reverse Auction, will go towards uncompensated costs related to uninsured or underinsured patients, as well as hospice programming and services in need of reimbursement.
