The Pepper Family Hospice Home
Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois opened the Pepper Family Hospice Home and Center for Care in Barrington in July, 2010. Our freestanding home has 16 private suites spacious enough to accommodate patients and their families. Each patient room was designed with large picture windows and oversized French doors to flood the area with natural light and offer views of the gardens and nearby parks. The rooms are furnished with large-screen TVs, sofa beds, comfortable chairs, mini fridge, and large bathrooms. In warm weather, the patient’s bed or wheelchair may be moved outside onto the protected patios outside each patient room. Our homelike interior throughout the unit includes such amenities as a family room, formal dining room, living room, library, meditation room, and hydro-therapy spa. As a LEED certified structure, it is one of the first “green” hospice homes in the country. 405 Lake Zurich Road, Barrington.
Q: Is the Pepper Family Hospice Home and Center for Care a long-term care facility?
A: No. It is a place where hospice patients can receive the inpatient level of care 24/7 to stabilize unmanageable symptoms. Symptoms/conditions are evaluated on a daily basis. The goal is to help the patient return to wherever they call home or to assist with transfer to an alternate setting.
The Woodstock Hospice Home
Opened in October of 2007, the Woodstock Hospice Home is the first hospice inpatient unit of its kind in the McHenry County area. Housed within the Centegra Specialty Hospital –Woodstock, the unit was developed thanks in part to a partnership with Centegra Health System, whose physicians and administrators recognized the need for such a facility for patients and families living in the far northwest suburbs. Conveniently located on the first floor of the hospital building, the inpatient unit features seven private patient suites that accommodate patients and their families for round-the-clock visiting. Double beds allow for family members to lay with their loved one if they choose. Down the hall is a spacious family room, complete with child’s play area, TV and video/book library, a quiet meditation room, and family kitchen, all featuring homelike décor and a warm, calming environment. The care team, which consists of a medical director, nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, chaplains, integrative therapists and volunteers, work with patients and families to help meet their immediate care needs and end-of-life goals. 507 W. South Street, Woodstock, IL
