Educating The Community
As a community-based hospice, Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois is dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding of matters related to advance care planning, palliative care, hospice services, death, dying, care giving, grief and loss. With our guidance, our neighbors are better prepared to make decisions about the care they or their loved ones receive.
Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois conducts educational presentations, seminars, conferences and in-service programs for community groups and healthcare professionals.
Each year, Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois provides guest speakers for professional organizations, service clubs, schools, colleges, businesses, churches and faith-based communities, senior centers, neighborhood groups and other partners throughout northern Illinois—all at no charge. Check out our calendar to view upcoming educational seminars or contact us if you would like to arrange for someone from Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois to present for your group. Some of the most requested topics include:
- Hospice Philosophy of Care –discusses services provided, eligibility, access and the financial benefits of hospice.
- Palliative Care 101 – explains how persons with chronic or serious illness can benefit from care coordination and symptom management offered through this relatively new medical specialty.
- Advance Care Planning – explains the importance of writing down your healthcare wishes in advance and helps participants complete a power of attorney for healthcare.
- Making tax-deductible gifts to Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois – “Leaving a Legacy of Care; Establishing Endowments; Planned Giving; How Your Gift Supports Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois, each details the many tax advantages that are possible by giving to Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois.
- Healing Touch – Caregivers learn an overview of the basics of this integrative therapy to use with patients to help with relaxation.
- Veteran’s Needs – Learn about the specific end-of-life situations and needs of veterans and how HPNI staff are specially trained to assist and care for them.
- Volunteer Training – Persons interested in volunteering with patients or in the hospice office attend one- or two-day training sessions.
- Seminars on grief and bereavement, volunteering and care giving issues are also available.
